Municipal budget 2025: highs and lows!

The DP political group expressly welcomed the efforts being made to expand the sports infrastructure. Here, the philosophy of the majority parties seems to be largely congruent with the DP program: New changing rooms for football, a renovated volleyball hall and two covered tennis courts are just a few examples. Even if a spectator tribune for football is still needed, the current program is fine. Cooperation with the clubs should now continue on a routine basis in a spirit of mutual respect.

Unfortunately, the situation with the schools is less good. For over 6 years now, the DP group has been calling for a substantial expansion of the school and the “Maison Relais” in Bereldange. So far there have only been studies, now there is an architectural competition, but a construction phase could start around 2028 at the earliest. Too late in view of the overcrowding at the school and Maison Relais!

As far as the local development plan (PAG) is concerned, there is unfortunately not much news either. As in the last legislative period, the opposition is repeatedly postponed to the next time. However, a new urbanism plan would make development legally secure and direct it along clearly defined lines. Unfortunately, the 2025 budget only provides money for studies.

The DP group has long been calling for more transparency for citizens. For example, we want the municipal council meetings to be broadcasted via livestream (audio and video) and then made available for replay via the archive feature. However, this is not a priority for the college of aldermen and not a single euro has been allocated for this contribution to greater transparency and democracy.

Despite some good approaches, DP Walfer and the entire opposition were unable to approve the 2025 budget.
